The Enduring Statehood of The London Lanesborough

In any other city, The Lanesborough would stand out prominently. But in London, it simply resembles another handsome Victorian building surrounded by charming black streetlamps… at least from the outside. A fusion of 19th-century luxury and town-house comfort, the Lanesborough décor pays homage to the Regency period of the early 1800s. The result is a stately aesthetic that exemplifies London’s essence and seduces guests with an atmosphere of authentically English luxuriance.

Its classical style is owed to 19th-century architect William Wilkins, who revived the then 100-year-old Lanesborough House with traditional Greek hallmarks. By 1988, the surrounding Knightsbridge area had grown from a quiet suburb into Square Mile’s most exclusive shopping and residential district, prompting the Fitzroy Robinson Partnership and architect-historian Anthony Blee to oversee its transformation into a luxury hotel. Officially opened in December 1991, it welcomed such dignitaries as Madonna, George Bush Sr., Arnold Swarzenneger, Johnny Depp and Pamela Anderson. Filmmaker Stanley Kubrick shot several scenes of Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman for Eyes Wide Shut in The Royal Suite, while Stevie Wonder even played on The Library Bar’s piano. Today, the hotel is situated between the wealthy Belgravia and Mayfair neighborhoods, overlooking Hyde Park. It remains home to its privileged guests and still retains much of Wilkins’ original elements, including the entrance foyer, the first-floor gallery, the main corridors, and grand stairways.

True English Hospitality

If nowhere else, you’re sure to find the finest hospitality where royalty lives. And this sophisticated hotel sure makes you feel it. All ninety-three rooms and suites include nostalgic interiors, room-control tablets, and access to the coveted Lanesborough Club & Spa. The Lanesborough is also the only hotel in London that offers round-the-clock butler service for each room and suite. But the premier residence of this five-star hotel is its magnificent Royal Suite. Occupying 450 square meters, it features seven bedrooms and bathrooms, two spacious living rooms, a dining room for twelve, and open views of the Buckingham Palace Gardens. Its soft primary colors and finely crafted elements exhibit strict attention to detail, promising an authentic experience.

Dine in utterly English style at Celeste, the hotel’s Michelin-Starred restaurant. Naturally illuminated during daytime by a sprawling glass ceiling while softly lit by opulent chandeliers in the evening, Celeste offers a truly unforgettable dining experience. Its vibrant Regency décor pays tribute to British heritage, along with traditional afternoon tea. Led by Head Chef Giuseppe Strippoli, the Celeste kitchen offers a culinary journey of flavors fashioned from local ingredients, from Asian and Nordic cuisines to passionately prepared pastries.

Exclusive Comfort

Secluded from the bustle of Hyde Park Corner, the Lanesborough’s famous Garden Room is a Knightsbridge secret and a hidden oasis for those in the know. Enveloped by lush vegetation, this sanctuary welcomes guests with a walk-in humidor displaying a wide selection of Cuban and pre-Castro cigars, ideally paired with The Lanesborough Paradis — a collection of some of the finest and rarest Cognacs and Armagnacs in the world.

But the Garden Room isn’t the only exclusive refuge here. The Lanesborough Club & Spa was crowned England’s Best Hotel Spa at the World Spa Awards. One of the most exclusive private members’ health and fitness clubs, it offers club members and hotel guests access to various experts in beauty, fitness, wellness, and mindfulness. It’s also the first spa in the UK to feature Tata Harper’s globally admired brand, comprising wholly natural and all-organic beauty treatments.

One of London’s most celebrated cocktail spaces, The Library Bar is a Lanesborough gem, boasting a venerable “liquid museum” of spirits and exceptional mixology by a team of decorated specialists. Its intimate atmosphere blends the classic and contemporary with rich, warm tones. With live entertainment, a vintage spirit selection dating back to 1770 and a ‘Cognac Drinks List of the Year’ Award from Imbibe Magazine, it’s clear why this private lounge has become a favorite for well-heeled Knightsbridge locals and hotel guests.
