The Elegant Eden of the Eternal city

As its name suggests, Hotel Eden is practically heaven on Earth. The bold, yellow building sits at the heart of the Eternal City yet remains ideally secluded from the metropolitan’s tumultuous tourism, afforded by an unrivaled location in the tranquil Veneta neighborhood, the original La Dolce Vita area. Perched on the Pincian Hill, one must ascend the sprawling Spanish Steps to reach this 5-star Roman gem. Privileged guests and the Roman upper class are welcomed into the illustrious lobby, a gorgeous first impression with high walls, authentic white marble, and a golden box ceiling. Though contemporary and spacious, Eden retains a boutique luxury that exemplifies the exclusivity and privacy synonymous with Roman elegance.

The Dorchester affiliate embodies a unique history as rich as its sumptuous décor. Designed by esteemed Italian architect Francesco Settimi, Hotel Eden opened its doors in October of 1889 to immediate success and popularity, standing as the first hotel in Rome with electricity, heating, and running water. Following hotelier Francesco Nistelweck’s transformation, generations of the Nistelweck family owned and managed the luxury hotel for nearly one hundred years. In April 2017, Eden was completely refurbished to denote a fresh chapter for the Roman jewel. Two years later, the hotel celebrated its 130th anniversary.

Sweeping Sights

Travelers and tourists need not even actively explore the Caput Mundi to glimpse its incalculable sights, as the hotel on a hill provides panoramic views of Rome from virtually any corner. Altare della Patria, Trinita dei Monti, Villa Medici, and St. Peter’s Basilica are among the many historic landmarks viewable from Eden’s top-floor suites and rooftop restaurants. Even during the brisk winter season, massive, unblemished sixth-floor windows receive the incandescent colors of sunset for as long as your eyes can endure its beauty.

Rooms & Suites

Bask in any of Eden’s classic rooms or prestigious suites and you’ll find yourself immersed in serenity and sustained with contentment. Characterized by tall windows, lofty ceilings, and a muted Italian palette, each residence seems to glow with the golden hue of Rome, reflecting delicate luxury and historical authenticity. Though similar to Hotel de Russie in its fusion of the classical and contemporary, Eden boasts a more lavish, yet tasteful grandeur.

However, the Dorchester hotel’s signature suites are easily the most extravagant in the city. From the Dolce Vita apartment to the Villa Medici Presidential Suite, each capacious residence features an array of impressive artwork, commands gaping views of the Eternal City, and gleams with natural light and gilded fixtures. Eden’s premier suite, the Bellavista Penthouse, occupies the sixth floor with a voluminous living area, a pristine marble bathroom, floor-to-ceiling windows, and urban chic. Created in 2000 by Roman architect Lorenzo Bellini, it features the elegant style of interior designers Bruno Moinard and Claire Bétaille, as well as a private bar, rooftop location, and a telescope to enjoy breathtaking views of Rome.

Fine Italian Dining

Eden’s exquisite, 5-star dining comes in various settings. Eden’s Aperitivo experience demonstrates a true Roman lifestyle, offering such masterfully mixed cocktails as the signature Hugo or Franciacorta with a yawning view over the city’s rooftops. The La Terrazza restaurant features Michelin-starred dining, sophisticated décor, and delectable Italian cuisine from Executive Chef Fabio Ciervo, while the al fresco-style Il Giardino Bar features an upscale lounge, live music, and sunset scenes for the few guests and locals in the know.

But the heart of Eden is an intimate space known as La Libreria, an elegant sitting room for morning coffee, a final shot of grappa, a casual meeting, or remote contemplation. This discrete treasure glows with a soft, warm palette and a golden box ceiling. Amidst the elegant décor, a secret bar lies behind large, mirrored doors, presenting countless wines, spirits, and immaculate glassware per a simple request.
